Course Description Course Description

This 2-day course provides an introduction to governmental financial statements and the Single Audit report from a governance viewpoint.  Participants will gain knowledge of the financial and compliance reporting process and its end products.  The audit reports and findings presented by the auditors and their potential impact on the USVI Government are discussed.  The session emphasizes hands-on practice in reading and understanding the financial statements and Single Audit report in order to identify the management actions needed in response. Participants will leave the course with improved knowledge and skills in understanding these financial reports and taking appropriate action. 

The course is offered in 2-hour sessions over a two-day period.

After successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the financial and compliance reporting process resulting in the government’s financial statements and compliance reports.
  • Read and understand the government’s financial statements and compliance reports.
  • Understand the role each department/agency/component unit fulfills in the financial and compliance reporting process.
  • Understand basic concepts of internal control as they apply to financial reporting and compliance.

Who Should Attend

Supervisory and management personnel from the U.S. Virgin Islands governmental
departments, agencies, and component units. Note this course is limited to 35 participants.

Dr. Yamamura brings to more than thirty years of experience in industry and academia to the PITI-VITI training team. She is licensed as a CPA in California and Nevada, and teaches a variety of custom-built courses to Pacific and Virgin Islands professionals.
