Course Description

This session examines COSO Internal Control, COSO ERM Internal Control, and GAO Green Book guidance. No matter the organization, how compelling its vision, or how brilliant its strategy, without strong internal controls, there is bound to be a failure in execution. Leaders of organizations have the clear responsibility to set the "Tone At The Top" through his or her actions, policies, values, influence, and day-to-day activities; and, a leader must learn how to communicate to stakeholders through authentic messages and powerful conversations. By using COSO guidance, leaders can build strong internal control foundations in any organization. The speaker will share serious and humorous personal experiences of success and failure throughout his career in government financial management to "connect the dots" between leadership, effective teams and internal controls.

Billy Morehead, Ph.D., CPA, CGFM

Madison, MS

Dr. William "Billy" Morehead, CGFM, CPA is a Professor of Accountancy at Mississippi College teaching primarily Governmental, Advanced, Accounting Information Systems, and Data Analytics classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A long-time member of the Jackson AGA chapter, Billy has served AGA in numerous roles at the chapter level, including Chapter President, and at the national level, including Chairs of the Journal Board and Higher Education Committee, National Treasurer, and National President. Billy is also a member of the Mississippi Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.
