This course is designed for the CNMI Department of Finance. If you have any questions contact [email protected].

Course Description

This 4-day (3 mornings + 1 full day) course is an introductory course for participants with little or no knowledge of governmental accounting. It provides an overview of governmental accounting systems and includes a basic introduction to accounting principles, internal controls, and documentation requirements. It is helpful for participants who have completed a college accounting course but have found it difficult to transfer that knowledge into a heavily computerized environment. In-class exercises enable participants to record journal entries, post them to the general ledger, and prepare financial statements. Note: This course “builds” from each day to the next. Participants should plan to attend the entire course or risk becoming lost because they have skipped a session.

The structure of this course calls for half-day and full-day classroom instruction over a period of four days. The instructor will be available to work with individual participants at their work sites during the afternoons on issues and problems related to the content of the training.
