Stefani has over 15 years of experience as a federal management and program analyst. She joined the U.S. Department of Interior, Office of Inspector General in 2009, becoming the third generation of her family to work for the DOI.
As an analyst for the OIG, Stefani conducted and supervised performance audits, inspections, and evaluations covering a wide range of topics including: recreation fees at national parks, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Sport Fish Restoration Program grant awards, and facility conditions at Bureau of Indian Education and tribal schools. Stefani is currently responsible for providing operational support and quality assurance for the OIG Office of Audits, Inspections, and Evaluations, including assisting with AIE work planning, report processing, and audit follow-up; conducting peer reviews and internal quality assurance reviews; developing and updating AIE policies and procedures, and developing and providing internal training for AIE staff.
In 2014, Stefani began traveling to the insular areas to provide training and technical support as part of the OIG’s Capacity Building Program, and she recently assumed responsibility for coordinating the program. The DOI OIG serves as the comptroller in the United States insular areas of Guam, CNMI, U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa, and has audit responsibilities in the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.
Prior to coming to the OIG, Stefani was a graduate student instructor at the University of Michigan, an Emerging Leader intern with the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington DC, and a Research Operations Manager for a small on-line survey resarch firm. She has a Master’s degree in Economic Sociology and Organizations from the University of Michigan, and she is a Certified Fraud Examiner.
