KERRI HUNTER, CPA, is the Deputy State Auditor responsible for overseeing the Colorado Office of the State Auditor’s (OSA) financial audits, including the State’s annual federal Single Audit and statewide financial audit. As a member of the OSA’s executive management team, Kerri also oversees the OSA’s Local Government Audit Division, quality assurance program, and internal and external peer review processes. In addition, Kerri is responsible for the OSA’s financial operations, including the accounting, budgeting, contracting, and financial reporting functions.
Kerri has more than 20 years of governmental auditing experience at the OSA. Prior to her appointment as Deputy State Auditor, Kerri served as the Audit Manager responsible for managing day-to-day activities related to conducting Colorado’s federal Single Audit and statewide financial audit. During her tenure at the OSA, Kerri also supervised financial and compliance audits of the Colorado Department of Human Services and monitored large contract audits of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing and the Colorado Benefits Management System.
Kerri participates in various professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the National State Auditors Association. In addition, she is a member of the University of Northern Colorado Accounting Program Advisory Council. She is a past recipient of the Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Award for exceptional service. In 2016, Kerri was named by the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as one of three “Women to Watch” in the Emerging Leader category. In 2017, she was selected to participate as a subject matter expert on a National Conference of State Legislatures’ assessment of a peer state audit agency. A Colorado native, Kerri holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Denver, and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Colorado.

This two-hour session will convene an expert panel of auditors to consider past audit work on U.S. COVID spending, the current opportunities and challenges for COVID auditing, and the future of COVID audits in the region. Island auditors will find the program both timely and important in supporting their accountability mission.
