Kino S. Kabua is currently the Chief Secretary and has been in her position since March of 2020. Prior to that, she was the Deputy Chief Secretary overseeing the National Disaster Management Office in the Marshall Islands, having joined the Office of the Chief Secretary in 2015. Before joining the Office of the Chief Secretary she was the Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2008 – 2015. She held previous positions in MOFAT as Under-Secretary of Multilateral Affairs and Under-Secretary of Bilateral Affairs, and Foreign Service Officer within MOFAT from 2000-2008. She holds a Bachelor’s degree both in Sociology and Public Administration/Public Policy, and received her Master’s Degree in Social Change and Development with distinction from Newcastle University in 2015. As Chief Secretary she chairs / co-chairs a number of government committees including the NSP SDG Committee, the Budget Coordinating Committee, the National Disaster Committee, the Human Rights Committee, the Tile Til Eo Committee, and the Government Ethics Board to name a few. She has a special interest in the area of leadership development and in particular women in leadership. In her free time, she loves to go fishing (trolling in particular) and compete in canoe paddling races and tennis matches.
